This is a 1977-1979 matchworn home Brighton and Hove Albion shirt. The number 9 during those seasons was worn by Ian Mellor, Teddy Maybank and Malcolm Poskett. This is currently my oldest matchworn shirt, and is the oldest shirt in my collection as of May 2020.
The number 9 on the front is probably because in the following season this shirt was used as a training shirt, the number was added to make it easier for the coaches to identify players during training.
